DeeAnna is also the co-founder of the Online Therapy Institute. The Online Therapy institute offers online
peer supervision, resources and consultancy about mental health and technology.
DeeAnna has practiced online counseling since 1999 and saw firsthand how clients benefited
from the experience. She signed up with the early e-clinics during the “dot.bomb” years and was involved in online
peer supervision long before most therapists even utilized email on a regular basis. She began presenting at state and national
conferences on the topic of online counseling. In 2005 she served as President of the International Society for Mental Health
Online, while simultaneously serving as the ethics chair of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia and
the New York Mental Health Counselors Association.
DeeAnna now dedicates most of her professional time
training other mental health practitioners about the provision of online counseling. With the need for standards of practice
and specialized counselor training, ReadyMinds, the leading provider of Distance Career Counseling and the Center for Credentialing
and Education, Inc. (CCE) an affiliate of the NBCC® introduced the Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC) certification.
DeeAnna has been a facilitator for ReadyMinds for the past few years and recently co-authored the DCC Mental Health Focus
curriculum. The DCC is rapidly becoming accepted as the standard of proficiency in the field. Mental health practitioners
who hold a minimum of a master’s degree and the National Certified Counselor credential and/or are license-eligible
to practice are eligible for this credential. The DCC can be obtained by social workers, marriage and family therapists,
psychologists and psychiatrists as well.
